Who's the Wealthiest

The question is: Who can afford to give away the most money? Why do people give money away? First, there is what they themselves say about why they do it. Then there is what others say. What people say themselves about why they are giving money away has to be read with ‘a pinch of salt between the lines’, as it were. Vivien Duffield, the daughter of Charles Clore, who runs both his foundation and one she set up in her own name with a £20 million inheritance, said –

I think the most important thing I could do is to use carefully the money that I have been lucky enough to be entrusted with and to create things for people when I’m gone that will still be there - If you’re lucky enough to have money, it’s your duty to give it away.

Why Give away Money

Philanthropy - There are many conspiracy theories that surrounds the process of philanthropy (a clever word for "giving away money"). Many books, articles, and sociological studies have analysed the typical donor, trying to understand the philanthropic impulse. Professional fundraisers study these documents like sacred texts. Because the task of raising money makes so many people so uncomfortable, much foolishness has been written – and sold – to help people deal with their discomfort. But who cares about these studies, we want to know who is the craziest donator, who can afford to give away the most and what message do they want to post!

To boil down all the research and save you a bunch of reading, here's the number one reason people give away their money: somebody asked. If it's someone they know and trust – their sister-in-law, parish priest, or car mechanic – so much the better. All fundraising, including grant writing, begins with the simple act of one person asking another for money. If someone asked you for money to abolish stupidity, you'd be pretty wary. If, on the other hand, someone wanted to abolish illiteracy, and had a reasonable plan to do it, you might write them a cheque. Goals can be difficult, but they must be seen as attainable.

Who gets the money?

I really haven't decided yet, that's not really the point of this page, but suggestions would be considered.
